I also cannot
forget my animals. It is true. I have got a cat and a rabbit. I had two rabbits but my rabbit Buttercup died. Now I have my

August 2013
Well Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine have just been taken on a trip to the Phillippines with one of their teachers!
Kumusta from the Philippines.
it has been
an extremely long trip for Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine! Firstly we
flew from Auckland to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. Luckily we were
travelling business class so slept nearly the whole 10 hour 40 minute
flight.
Check out our seats:
Kuala
Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and also the most populous city
in Malaysia. There are around 1.6million people living in the city
which covers 243 km2 . Auckland is 4.5 times larger and has a population around 1.4 million.
Then
we had a 3 hour transit (wait between flights) then flew on to Manila
in the Philippines. This flight was nearly 4 hours. Manila is the
capital city of the Philippines and is the most densely populated city
in the world with 43,079 inhabitants per km2!
Check out our route:
After
hanging out in the Malaysian Airlines lounge at Manila for several
hours Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine were getting very bored and tired.
There was still another flight from Manila to Cebu to come, and we were
very annoyed when we found out our flight had been delayed a second
time. Eventually we caught our flight at 7pm (was supposed to be 5pm).
Finally after more than 24 hours of travelling and transiting we made it to Cebu.
The
province of Cebu is a narrow strip of land, approximately 200 km long
and 40 km across at its widest. It is made up of Cebu Island and then
another 167 smaller islands.
We couldn't
wait to get to the hotel in Cebu. We are staying at the Shangri-La.
Remember we are part of the Ironman Group, and this hotel will be
filled with lots of athletes over the next couple of days. Being driven
to the hotel was an eye-opener. There is a lot of tooting, cars being
over-taken and under-taken, narrow roads and no road markings! It's
quite scary! There are people walking around the streets, food stalls
roadside (we won't be eating from them), lots of small sheds (houses)
made from a patchwork of iron - we'll get some photos of that in
daylight. It looks like a very, very poor place, but then there's a
beautiful hotel in amongst it all ... and that's where we are staying.
Upon arrival we were greeted by a beautiful Filipina woman. She wore the official national costume, the baro at saya (= baro't saya). The baro is the top blouse. The saya is the skirt.
Then we were shown to our room.
There
are lots of beautiful flower arrangements in the hotel and our room.
Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine particularly liked this one.
For
lunch we dined in our room. Flat Sonnie enjoyed a Veal Bratwurst and
Flat Jasmine some club sandwiches - not very filipino at all!
Later today we will head to the Ironman registration, photos to follow.
Paalam na for now.

Magandang hapon (good afternoon) from the Shangri-La Resort
After a good night's sleep with the air con on low, we woke refreshed and ready to enjoy another hot day. The temperature here is 32 degrees celsius and 80% humidity ... yes it's like being in a sauna! Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine are pleased they will only be spectators at Sunday's Half Ironman Triathlon event and not competing!
This morning Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine hit the beach at the resort. It's a beautiful beach and the water is a balmy 28 degrees celsius - not exactly refreshing! It's the same temperature as the swimming pool at Lloyd Elsmore. There are lots of colourful, stripy fish swimming around us - like in the movie Nemo.
Check out the Shangri-La Resort Beach:
Mrs Brown and Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine about to get into their togs and hit the beach!
Flat Jasmine loving the resort beach and the frangipani flowers.
Flat Sonnie thinks the filipino boats are kind of weird.
Later in the afternoon it was time for Cameron Brown to register and get his race pack for the 70.3 Ironman Philippines triathlon. There are more than 2,000 athletes taking part in the event, which consists of a 2km swim, 90km cycle and 21km run. There is a star-studded professional field of more than 20 men, including current World Champion Pete Jacobs, and two-time World Champion Chris McCormick to name a couple. The women's field is not nearly as strong, with only 6 pro women - maybe we should enter, we might make a few dollars!
Flat Sonnie and Flat Jasmine enjoyed a photo with Cameron Brown. Can you spot us?
So, it's paalam from us.
