Flat Rhi has done quite a bit of travelling recently...look what she got up to in San Francisco

Flat Rhiannon has been visiting San Francisco. First she took a walk down to the beach by the Golden Gate Bridge. It was very windy so she was flying around a bit, but she seemed to enjoy it. 

Next she took a walk back along the sea front until she could see Alcatraz. Alcatraz is a very interesting place – it was once a prison and notoriously hard to escape from because it is 1.5 miles out into the bay and the water is very, very cold. Alcatraz was the only federal prison in America to have hot water in the showers, so that prisoners couldn’t get acclimatized to cold water and try to swim off the island!

Next Flat Rhiannon accompanied Claire on a business trip to Portland, 

Oregon. Unfortunately Claire spent most of her time in the office or her hotel so didn’t manage to take any good pictures. Which is why we have this of Flat Rhiannon at Portland airport!

The next thing she did was altogether more exciting. She attended an NBA Playoffs game. This was a Western Conference championship game, the Golden State Warriors vs. the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors were at their home stadium in Oakland. To get to Oakland Flat Rhiannon went on the BART – Bay Area Rapid Transport – and went underneath San Francisco Bay through the Transbay tube.

Fortunately the Warriors won, although a few games later they were knocked out of the competition. Still, it was a very exciting game and a great day out!

After all that excitement it was good to go for a walk past the Palace of Fine Arts. It was built in 1915 for an exposition, and was only meant to be a temporary structure, but the people of San Francisco loved it so much that it was saved, and still stands today. 

I hope Flat Rhiannon has enjoyed her time in California (with a short trip to Oregon), and has a lovely time in London at her next destination.
